A brace from Ivorian forward Gnamien Yikpe and goals apiece from Clifton Miheso and Lawrence Juma were enough to hand the defending champions the win in the Mashemeji derby. Tresor Ndikumana scored Ingwe’s consolation.

The defending champions started the match on a brighter note, trying to go for an early goal. Gnamien Yikpe and Francis Afriyie both came close but it was Juma Lawrence who managed to get an off-target attempt from about 25 yards.

Leopards were to pull a goal back seven minutes from time through Tresor Ndikumana at a time when Gor Mahia had to withdraw Yikpe for Nicholas Kipkirui. Kenneth Muguna was then sent to rest for Joakim Oluoch

An additional five minutes was served to enable both sides to make the necessary adjustments on the scoreline but none was able to make any difference in those minutes.
