2019 Afcon opening ceremony performers
Femi Kuti of Nigeria, Dobet Gnahore of Ivory and Hakim of Egypt were at their best during the opening jamboree.
Kuti, the Afrobeat singer with four Grammy nominations to his name — performed the English version of the tournament’s official song.
He was joined by Grammy-winning Gnahore. The Afrobeat star won her first Grammy in 2010 for Best Urban/Alternative Performance.
Egypt’s Hakim rounded off the trio of headline acts. Hakim is a folk singer who has performed at a number of big events, including the Nobel Prize ceremony in Oslo in 2006.
Opening
The festivities began at 20:30 (SAST) with the opening match between Egypt and Zimbabwe kicking off at 22:00 SAST.
