Leicester City have reportedly been put up for sale by their Thai owners King Power, a decade after the club completed one of the most remarkable title triumphs in Premier League history.
The Foxes are preparing to compete in the third tier of English football for only the second time in their history following a difficult period marked by successive relegations.
Leicester dropped out of the Premier League in 2025 before suffering another relegation from the Championship in 2026, leaving the 2016 English champions facing life in League One.
Their decline came only a few years after another major achievement, with Leicester winning the FA Cup for the first time in their history in 2021.
The club’s financial problems also contributed to their struggles last season after they were docked six points for breaching the English Football League’s profit and sustainability regulations.
The deduction further damaged Leicester’s survival hopes and eventually contributed to their relegation to League One.
King Power, which is controlled by the Srivaddhanaprabha family, has now reportedly commissioned a leading United States investment bank to explore the sale of the club.
Leicester’s assets are said to have been valued at more than £200 million as the owners begin searching for potential buyers.
King Power purchased Leicester for approximately £35 million in 2010 and oversaw an extraordinary period in the club’s history.
The most memorable achievement came in 2016 when Leicester stunned English football by winning the Premier League title against overwhelming odds.
That historic triumph was followed by continued appearances in European competition and the club’s maiden FA Cup success five years later.
Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha became Leicester chairman following the death of his father Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, who was killed in a helicopter crash outside the King Power Stadium.
Aiyawatt has remained in charge during the club’s recent decline and accepted responsibility following their latest relegation.
He admitted that he should take some of the blame for Leicester’s situation while promising changes to the club’s structure.
The reported decision to consider a sale could now bring an end to more than 15 years of ownership by the Srivaddhanaprabha family.
Leicester will begin the new campaign under manager Russell Martin as they attempt to secure an immediate return to the Championship.
Their promotion challenge begins with an away fixture against Notts County on Saturday.
