Liverpool held by Leicester City 1-1

A win at home to Leicester would have given Liverpool a seven-point lead over Manchester City with just 14 games left to negotiate.

But it wasn’t to be for the Reds. They were held to a 1-1 draw by the Foxes, despite going ahead after just three minutes.

Sadio Mane was the man on the scoresheet just 180 seconds in. The Reds didn’t hold up either, continuing to apply pressure on the Kasper Schmeichel’s goal with a barrage of attacks.

Jurgen Klopp’s mean were dominating – their full backs were high, their strikers were hitting the target and the midfield was bossing it.

But about 20 minutes into the first half, the pendulum began to swing in Leicester’s favour.

A change of formation to a traditional 4-4-2 (the one they won the Premier League with) changed the game completely. Putting James Maddison in a central role and having Demari Gray and mark Albrighton out wide was working a treat.

And Claude Puel’s tactics were bearing fruit, with Harry Maguire slotting home the equaliser just moments before half time.

The second half was sheer end-to-end action, with both sides looking for the winner.

Maguire had a brilliant chance to win the game with a glancing header, while Roberto Firmino had the best chance for the home side.

Neither team was able to break the stalemate though, meaning Liverpool’s lead at the summit of the Premier League was extended to five points rather than seven.

For the Foxes, they’d be disappointed not to come away from Anfield with more than just a point. At times they really did dominate Klopp’s men.
