Lyon delivered a ruthless Europa League performance in Serbia, hammering Maccabi Tel Aviv 6–0 in a one-sided contest powered by a Corentin Tolisso hat-trick and total dominance from start to finish.

Lyon produced a Europa League display of pure authority at the TSC Arena, dismantling Maccabi Tel Aviv 6–0 in a match that highlighted the gulf in quality, control and composure between the two sides.

The French side’s intent was clear from the very first whistle. Inside four minutes, Abner Vinicius ghosted into the box to meet a loose ball and power it into the bottom corner, giving Lyon the perfect platform for what would become a devastating evening of clinical finishing and relentless attacking pressure.

Corentin Tolisso soon stepped into the spotlight, rising to nod home Lyon’s second in the 25th minute after Abner delivered a pinpoint cross. Maccabi, already struggling to hold shape under Lyon’s passing sequences, then suffered another blow when Moussa Niakhate calmly converted a penalty in the 35th minute to make it 3–0 before the break. The hosts could not escape the press, could not control the midfield, and could not find a way out of their own half.

The second half brought no relief. Lyon returned from the dressing room as hungry as before, and it took only six minutes for Tolisso to grab his second of the night, rising again at the back post to nod in from close range after a measured Pavel Sulc cross. Just two minutes later, Tolisso completed his hat-trick, reacting fastest inside the six-yard box to poke home a loose ball and make it 5–0. His movement, positioning and timing were simply too much for Maccabi to handle.

Adam Karabec added to the misery in the 62nd minute, finishing beautifully into the bottom left corner after Khalis Merah’s precise delivery. It was a goal that summarised Lyon’s discipline and creativity, turning half-chances into polished finishes with almost effortless ease.

Maccabi Tel Aviv’s frustrating evening was capped deep into stoppage time when Sagiv Yehezkel received his second yellow card for a late challenge, leaving the home side a man down in the dying moments of an already painful night.

By the time the referee blew for full time, Lyon had not only taken three points they had sent a Europa League warning. Their 6–0 victory showcased attacking fluidity, ruthless finishing and a midfield that controlled every inch of the pitch. Maccabi, meanwhile, never found a foothold, failing to threaten meaningfully at any stage.

Lyon leave Serbia looking like one of the form teams of the competition, while Maccabi face a tough path ahead as they attempt to recover from one of their heaviest defeats in recent memory.
