Gor Mahia secured another thrilling victory in the fiercely contested Mashemeji Derby, defeating AFC Leopards 1-0 at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday, April 21, 2024, further solidifying their position atop the Football Kenya Federation Premier League.

The match was intense, with Gor Mahia narrowly clinching the win and moving closer to successfully defending their Premier League title with just a few games left in the season.

Early in the game, Gor Mahia had a promising chance in the seventh minute when Ronney Onyango's attempt was thwarted by AFC Leopards' goalkeeper Levis Opiyo. Shortly after, another opportunity arose as Onyango set up Bryson Wangai, who then laid off the ball to Austin Odhiambo, only for Odhiambo to miss a clear chance to score in the 17th minute.

Persistent pressure from Gor Mahia eventually paid off in the 29th minute when Odhiambo netted the decisive goal.

Throughout the match, Odhiambo and Benson Omala kept AFC Leopards on their toes, both players determined to make their mark despite the looming threat from Tito Okello of Police in the top scorers' race.

Gor Mahia faced adversity when Kevin Omondi received a red card for a late foul on AFC Leopards' Victor Omune just before halftime. Despite being a man down, substitute goalkeeper Caleb Omondi stood firm against AFC Leopards' attacks, preserving Gor Mahia's lead and securing a clean sheet.

With this victory, Gor Mahia extended their lead at the summit of the league table to nine points, edging closer to clinching their historic 21st Premier League title.
