Gravenberch And Wirtz Fire Liverpool Past Wolves At Anfield
Liverpool secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over winless Wolves at Anfield, with quickfire goals from Gravenberch and Wirtz setting the tone before Santiago Bueno offered late hope for the visitors.
Liverpool breathed a huge sigh of relief after edging past Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 in a Premier League encounter at Anfield. The Reds were in command early on, with Ryan Gravenberch opening the scoring in the 41st minute following a smart cutback from Jeremie Frimpong. Less than a minute later, Florian Wirtz doubled the lead, converting a perfect through ball from Hugo Ekitike to register his first goal in Liverpool colours.
Wolves showed brief resistance in the second half when Santiago Bueno capitalised on a spilled save by Alisson to pull one back six minutes after the restart. Despite mounting pressure, Wolves could not find an equaliser, with Liverpool’s defence holding firm and Alisson making crucial interventions late in the game.
The victory marked Liverpool’s third consecutive league win and moved them back into the top four, above Manchester United and Chelsea. Wolves, meanwhile, remain rooted to the bottom with just two points from 18 matches, extending their losing streak to eleven games.
Liverpool had several chances to extend their lead, with Florian Wirtz, Curtis Jones, Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, and Cody Gakpo all coming close. Wolves’ attacking threats, led by Strand Larsen and Tolu Arokodare, were kept at bay by Liverpool’s resilient backline.
The game was also marked by an emotional tribute to the late Diogo Jota, with both sets of players and fans honouring the former Liverpool striker before kick-off.
Liverpool will now look to build on this momentum as they aim to secure a Champions League spot, while Wolves face the daunting task of ending their winless run in the Premier League.
