Six players who have been knocked out of the Champions League are in the team of the season so far, according to the stats.
The Champions League has moved on to the quarter finals already, with Chelsea’s win over Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich finishing the job against Lazio finishing off the last 16.
Friday’s draw will be very interesting and we’ve already simulated our version of the final eight and it could be tricky for Liverpool, who would face Bayern Munich.
Manchester City have it a bit easier according to our version of the draw, facing Porto, and according to the stats, Pep Guardiola’s side are likely to win the competition for the first time.
Despite that though there is no City players in the best XI so far this season according to the stats. WhoScored.com rate players out of 10 for each game and there’s some surprising selections for the best XI.
Six of the starting XI are actually already out of the competition and one of the other players didn’t play a single minute of the last 16.
Juventus players Juan Cuadrado, Alex Sandro and Cristiano Ronaldo were surprisingly knocked out by Porto on away goals, with Ronaldo heavily criticised for turning his back on the match winning free kick.
Lionel Messi scored an absolute worldie in the second leg against PSG, and also missed a penalty, but it was nowhere near enough to over turn a 4-1 defeat in the first leg.
Neymar didn’t play at all in that game but does at least have the opportunity to carry on impressing in the Champions League, with his teammate doing more than enough to qualify for the quarters.
Atalanta’s Cristian Romero was on the end of a defeat by Real Madrid and the Serie A side can’t go further than their rivals Juve this season.
Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes is in the team despite his side not even making it out of a tough Champions League group.
Fernandes scored four goals in the group, with United beating PSG and RB Leipzig in their opening two games before a shock defeat to Istanbul Basaksehir derailed them.
Seeing Erling Haaland in the side is certainly less of a shock, the Borussia Dortmund striker has 10 goals in the competition this season.
