AFCON 2021 Qualifiers: Comoros overtakes Egypt in Group G after 2-1 win against Kenya | Africa Cup Of Nations

Comoros cemented their place at the top of Group G with eight points following a 2-1 victory over Kenya in their final game of the international break.

Red Star Belgrade forward El Fardou Ben opened the scoring for Comoros before Kenya’s Masoud Juma grabbed the equalizer as Faiz Mattoir’s second-half strike secured all three points for Comoros.

The win leaves Comoros on top with 8 points from four games, three better than second placed Egypt who have played one game less and visit Togo on Tuesday.

Kenya are third in the group with 3 points and need favours from other results in the remaining group games to qualify for Afcon due in Cameroon

Kenya began her campaign remarkably well holding seven-time African champions Egypt to a one-all-draw in Alexandria Egypt but have shot themselves on the foot, failing to claim the maximum points in subsequent home fixtures against Togo and Comoros.

The Afcon showpiece was primed to kickoff in Cameroon in January 2021 but was pushed back to 2022 due to the ravaging coronavirus pandemic.
