Kenya secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Namibia in their latest 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, played at the Orlando Stadium on Tuesday night.
The match was a tightly contested affair, with both teams creating chances but failing to capitalize on them in the first half.
Kenya broke the deadlock in the 58th minute when Lloyd Avire converted a free-kick from just outside the area.
The Harambee Stars played with more confidence after taking the lead, but Namibia continued to press forward and created several opportunities of their own.
Duke Abuya doubled Kenya’s advantage in the 76th minute, scoring from close range. Namibia managed to pull one goal back in the 90th minute through Deon Hotto, but it was too late to salvage a result.
Head coach Engin Firat commended his charges for playing faithfully to the script. “I’m glad we managed to secure this win today,” Firat stated. “We want to win all six of our games to maintain our hopes, as I mentioned.”
The victory gives Kenya a significant boost in their quest to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. With four points, Kenya now sits atop Group J, one point above Cameroon who have a game in hand.
