Gor Mahia Sets Sights on New Era with Planned Mega Stadium in Lukenya

Led by Deputy Patron Mr. Eliud Owalo, the club’s top leadership convened in Lukenya, adjacent to Daystar University, to assess a 48-acre parcel of land - land that may soon become the next home of Gor Mahia FC.

In a historic move for Kenyan football, Gor Mahia FC has taken a bold step toward building its future—literally. The club's top brass, led by Deputy Patron Eliud Owalo, inspected a 48-acre site in Lukenya earmarked for a state-of-the-art stadium and sports complex. With plans for a 60,000-seat arena, elite training grounds, and modern recovery and hospitality facilities, this project signals a transformative chapter for the country’s most decorated club.

Under the morning sun, a vision long held by Gor Mahia FC finally began to take form. Kenya’s most successful football club is now officially charting the course toward building its own home—a state-of-the-art stadium and sports complex that will stand as a symbol of pride, permanence, and progress.

Club leadership, led by Deputy Patron and Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo, convened at a 48-acre site in Lukenya, near Daystar University, to inspect land that could soon transform into a world-class footballing hub. The facility is designed to seat 60,000 fans and will include modern amenities aimed at elevating Gor Mahia’s domestic and continental ambitions.

“We made a promise just last week to find a suitable location for the Gor Mahia stadium,” Owalo said. “Today, we’re turning that promise into action.”

The master plan goes beyond just a stadium. It includes three dedicated training pitches for the senior team, youth academy, and Gor Mahia Queens, along with on-site player accommodation, a 4-star hotel for guests, and advanced recovery facilities such as a gym, saunas, and pools. The complex will also host a media center, club offices, a megastore for merchandise, and retail spaces—all designed with fans and functionality in mind.

Gor Mahia Chairman Ambrose Rachier highlighted the symbolic and strategic importance of the move.

“This is a turning point for Gor Mahia. We’ve relied on borrowed facilities for too long. It’s time we built something permanent for our players and our fans.”

The Lukenya site was selected for its accessibility and potential to anchor a legacy project. However, the club has also inspected an additional 40-acre parcel in Maanzoni, Machakos County, as part of a broader infrastructure vision. That site is earmarked for a cutting-edge training center and clubhouse—the first in the club’s history.

“This initiative is about more than just bricks and mortar,” said Owalo. “It’s about transforming a football club into a continental powerhouse with infrastructure that matches its ambitions.”

The move follows other milestones in Owalo’s active tenure, including his role in facilitating a Ksh. 20 million team bus in 2023. With the government’s backing and renewed leadership focus, Gor Mahia is finally laying the foundation-literally and figuratively-for a future worthy of its name.

As the echoes of “Gor Biro!” ring through Kenya’s stadiums, they may soon reverberate through a home built for champions-by champions.
