Newcastle United stormed to a 3-0 win over Ipswich Town at St James’ Park, condemning the visitors to relegation while boosting their own Champions League hopes with goals from Isak, Burn, and Osula.
Newcastle United delivered a dominant performance at St James’ Park, brushing aside Ipswich Town 3-0 to move up to third in the Premier League and confirm Ipswich’s relegation back to the Championship.
The Magpies were made heavy favourites after Ipswich midfielder Ben Johnson was shown a second yellow card in the first half for pulling back Alexander Isak, reducing the visitors to ten men. Newcastle took full advantage, opening the scoring just before half-time when Isak calmly tucked away a penalty after a VAR review spotted a foul inside the box.
After the break, the hosts turned their control into goals. Dan Burn doubled the lead with a towering header from a Kieran Trippier cross, before substitute William Osula marked his Premier League debut with a goal, heading home another superb Trippier delivery to make it 3-0.
Despite a few late opportunities to add a fourth, Eddie Howe’s side comfortably managed the game, ensuring all three points stayed on Tyneside.
For Ipswich, it was a crushing end to a difficult campaign. Having struggled for consistency all season, their fate was sealed with this loss, joining Southampton and Leicester City in making the drop.
Newcastle now set their sights firmly on securing Champions League football for next season, while Ipswich face the reality of rebuilding in the Championship.
