APS Bomet edged closer to the summit with a vital win over Vihiga United, while Mombasa Elite stunned Luanda Villa to climb away from danger. MOFA dropped points late, and Migori held Kibera to a frustrating draw in a weekend of shifting momentum and tightened standings.
Matchday 30 of the FKF National Super League (NSL) delivered pivotal results that reshaped both ends of the table, as promotion contenders battled for advantage and struggling sides fought for survival.
APS Bomet kept their title hopes alive with a controlled 2-0 home win over Vihiga United at Bomet IAAF Stadium. Goals from captain Daniel Odhiambo in the 25th minute and Lawrence Kibet late in the game secured all three points. The visitors were reduced to 10 men in the 84th minute, compounding a difficult outing that leaves them languishing in 13th place, with a federation deduction of 3 points and 2 goals worsening their outlook.
The win pushes APS Bomet to 52 points, just six behind leaders Nairobi United, who remain top with 58 points from 28 matches. Bomet have now won three of their last five and are increasingly eyeing automatic promotion with just a few games remaining.
Down the coast, Mombasa Elite secured a vital 3-1 win against Luanda Villa, inspired by a first-half blitz. Star forward Haaland bagged a brace in the 20th and 24th minutes before Kennedy Nyale added a third in stoppage time of the first half. Though Luanda pulled one back in the second half, it was not enough to stop Mombasa from collecting a crucial three points, lifting them to 14th on 33 points—equal with Vihiga but ahead on goal difference.
MOFA, currently 4th with 46 points, missed a golden opportunity to close in on the top three after conceding a late equalizer in a 1-1 draw against SamWest Blackboots. MOFA had taken the lead in the 36th minute and looked set to secure the win before SamWest struck in the 89th minute. Both sides sit in mid-table security, but the dropped points could prove costly for MOFA in the promotion chase.
Elsewhere, Migori Youth held high-flying Kibera Blackstars to a goalless draw, frustrating the visitors who remain fifth on 46 points. Migori, now 16th, still face relegation pressure and sit on 26 points after being docked 3 points and 2 goals by the federation.
The standings are beginning to crystallize as the season heads into its final stretch. Nairobi United lead the pack, while Bomet and Naivas remain hot on their heels. MOFA and Kibera are still in contention, separated only by goal difference. At the other end, Mombasa Stars, Assad, and a winless Migori find themselves in the danger zone, needing late-season miracles to avoid the drop.
Sanctions from the federation have also impacted the table: 3K FC (-2 points), Assad (-3 points), Vihiga United (-3 points), and Migori (-3 points) are among those penalized, complicating their season objectives further. Meanwhile, Dimba Patriots and Muhoroni Youth have been eliminated and withdrawn respectively, making for a turbulent campaign off the pitch as well.
With promotion and relegation battles tightening, every point now carries enormous weight, and the next matchday promises even more tension and drama in the FKF NSL.
