A rape allegation against Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has been “quietly dropped”.

A notice of voluntary dismissal was filed in Nevada state court in Las Vegas last month, Bloomberg reports.

It did not specify if the accuser has reached a settlement with Ronaldo, 33, who plays for the Italian club Juventus and his home country’s national team.

Ronaldo denied allegations by Kathryn Mayorga that he raped her in his Las Vegas penthouse in 2009. The police case was closed in 2009 when the alleged victim declined to name her alleged assailant.

Ronaldo’s lawyers said the encounter between the pair was consensual.

Mayorga, 34, filed a civil lawsuit on September 27 in Nevada claiming Ronaldo raped her and that she was paid $375,000 to keep quiet. The former model and schoolteacher, gave consent through her lawyers to make her name public.

The lawsuit sought to void the agreement that her lawyers say she signed under pressure from “fixers” trying to protect the reputation of Ronaldo. The lawsuit also sought monetary damages of at least $200,000.
