Barcelona secured their first UEFA Champions League semi-final berth in six years on Tuesday, advancing 5-3 on aggregate despite a spirited 3-1 second-leg defeat by Borussia Dortmund.

The Catalan giants, five-time European champions, weathered a hat-trick from Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy, who handed Barcelona their first loss in all competitions in 2024. However, their commanding first-leg performance proved decisive, ending a six-season wait to return to the tournament’s final four.

Xavi Hernández’s side, unbeaten in 13 matches prior to Tuesday, faced a nervy finish after Guirassy’s trio of goals narrowed the aggregate score. Yet Barcelona’s composure and tactical discipline ensured their progression, reigniting hopes of a sixth Champions League title.

Next Challenge Awaits
Barcelona will face either Bayern Munich or Inter Milan in the semi-finals, with the two European heavyweights set to clash in their quarter-final decider on Wednesday. The semi-final draw marks a potential reunion with Bayern, who famously defeated Barça 8-2 in 2020, or a tactical showdown with Simone Inzaghi’s Inter.

“We’ve taken a big step tonight,” said Barcelona captain Sergi Roberto. “The team showed character, and now we fight to go even further.”

With their sights set on a historic finale at Wembley Stadium in June, Barcelona’s resurgence under Xavi continues to captivate fans, blending youth and experience in their quest for European glory.
