Barcelona are interested in signing Manchester United star Edinson Cavani as a replacement for the sidelined Sergio Aguero, according to reports.
Aguero was ruled out until the New Year when he was forced off the pitch during Barca’s La Liga match against Alaves last month after suffering from chest pains.
Cardiologal tests on the Argentina International reportedly showed that he had an irregular heartbeat.
The former Manchester City striker is set to announce his retirement from football at a press conference later this week, according to Aguero’s friend and journalist, Gerard Romero.
As a result, Barcelona boss Xavi has set his sights on Cavani, with the Mirror reporting that the Catalonia club is ready to offer around £4m for the veteran striker in January.
Cavani scored 17 times for the club last season with United extending his contract at Old Trafford by a further year thanks to that fine form.
But the former Napoli striker has found game time much harder to come by this term, having only played five times In the Premier League so far following several fitness problems, coupled with the return of Cristiano Ronaldo to the club.
The 34-year-old is out of contract in the summer and is reportedly keen to start as many games as possible for the remaining years of his career.
Barcelona could face competition from Inter Milan to land Cavani, who are also reportedly interested in signing the Uruguay star in January.
