Bullets Held, Ulinzi Smelling Blood – FKF WPL Title Race Blown Wide Open!

KENYA POLICE BULLETS FC @policebullets

Despite Kenya Police Bullets FC finishing top of the table after a tense 0-0 draw with Vihiga Queens, their title celebrations have been delayed by a lingering appeal from Ulinzi Starlets, throwing the FKF Women’s Premier League into uncertainty.

What was meant to be a moment of glory for Kenya Police Bullets FC has instead become a tense and uncertain wait. On Sunday, the Bullets played out a dramatic goalless draw with Vihiga Queens in the final round of the FKF Women’s Premier League. The result was enough to take them to the summit of the table with 42 points from 20 matches, seemingly securing them back-to-back league titles.

But despite finishing top, their championship celebrations remain on hold  not because of what happened on the pitch, but due to an unresolved appeal by title rivals Ulinzi Starlets.

Nine weeks ago, Ulinzi Starlets lodged an official protest over their 2-2 draw with Zetech Sparks. The core of the dispute is the participation of Bertha Omita, whom Ulinzi claim was fielded by Zetech before her transfer had been finalized, rendering her ineligible. If the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) rules in Ulinzi’s favour and awards them three points from the contested match, Ulinzi would also finish on 42 points  potentially overtaking Kenya Police Bullets depending on tie-breakers such as goal difference or head-to-head record. The FKF has yet to resolve the case, casting a shadow over what should have been a definitive end to the league season.

Elsewhere across the league on the final day, Bungoma Queens thrashed Trinity Starlets 3-0, Kisumu All Starlets beat KISPED Queens 2-0, Mombasa Olympic and Bunyore Starlets played out a 1-1 draw, and Zetech Sparks edged Kibera Soccer Women 1-0 in another tight fixture. The combination of results saw Zetech finish fifth with 31 points, while Kibera dropped to third with 38, narrowly behind Ulinzi (39) and Vihiga (38). It was a fiercely competitive season all the way down the stretch.

Yet all the excitement on the field has been overshadowed by off-field indecision. Kenya Police Bullets, who had an outstanding defensive record with only seven goals conceded all season, should be basking in the glory of a hard-fought campaign. Instead, their title hangs in the balance as they await the outcome of a case that has dragged on far too long.

The FKF’s prolonged silence has drawn criticism from various quarters of the football community, with many questioning the integrity of the process and the impact on the league’s credibility.

As things stand, Kenya Police Bullets lead the table with 42 points, followed by Ulinzi Starlets with 39, Kibera Soccer Women and Vihiga Queens both on 38, and Zetech Sparks rounding out the top five. But the true final standings and the rightful champion may ultimately be decided not by goals or wins, but by paperwork and tribunal deliberations. Until that verdict comes, the 2024/25 FKF Women’s Premier League title remains in limbo.
