Kakamega Homeboyz and Shabana FC reignited the FKF Premier League title battle with hard-earned 2-1 victories on Tuesday. The wins not only tightened the top-four contest but also dealt a significant blow to Police FC’s grip on the summit.
With just a few games left in the FKF Premier League season, the race for the title and continental slots is intensifying—and Tuesday’s results added a new twist. Kakamega Homeboyz stunned league leaders Police FC with a 2-1 win, while Shabana FC edged Bidco United by the same margin, both victories coming with huge implications for the standings.
In Mumias, Kakamega Homeboyz showed grit and precision in a match that could define their season. Moses Shumah opened the scoring in the 8th minute from the penalty spot, only for Police FC’s Bajaber Mohammed to level in the 14th minute.
However, it was Glen Otunga who turned hero in the 47th minute, smashing in what proved to be the match-winner. Despite several tactical changes from the visitors—including multiple substitutions in the second half—Police FC failed to find the equalizer. Homeboyz goalkeeper Ibrahim Wanzala was particularly impressive, pulling off key saves to preserve the lead.
The loss for Police FC is their second in five games and sees their position at the top come under serious threat.
Meanwhile, at home, Shabana FC overcame Bidco United 2-1 to keep their CAF Champions League ambitions alive. Alfred Odongo put the hosts ahead in the 20th minute before Christopher Asiago equalized for Bidco in the 37th.
The second half was closely contested until Benard Michira stepped up with a clinical finish in the 60th minute. Shabana held firm through the final whistle, registering their third consecutive win and moving within six points of the league leaders.
The result leaves Police FC top on 58 points, but with just a three-point cushion over Tusker (55) and five ahead of Gor Mahia (53) who have a game in hand. Shabana now sit fourth on 55, closely followed by Homeboyz on 54.
With Kenya Police, Tusker, Gor Mahia, Shabana & Kakamega Homeboyz clubs pushing for silverware and top-tier placement, this fixture could be pivotal. Fans can expect a tight, high-stakes encounter between two well-drilled teams.
