Joseph Okumu Faces Uncertain Future as Reims Drop to Ligue 2

Harambee Stars centre-back Joseph Okumu is staring at a defining chapter in his career after his French side, Stade de Reims, was relegated from Ligue 1 following a heartbreaking playoff defeat to Metz.

Reims’ fight for survival went down to the wire after finishing 16th in the league standings. A tense first leg of their relegation-promotion playoff last week ended in a 1-1 stalemate. Founded in 1931, Stade de Reims is one of France’s historic clubs, having lifted six Ligue 1 titles in their heyday, though their last league triumph dates back to 1962. Their recent relegation marks their first drop since earning promotion back to the top tier in 2018.
