Kayole Starlets have finally sealed their long-awaited promotion to the FKF Women’s Premier League after a stunning 4-0 victory over Sunderland Samba, with one game still left to play. This triumph marks the culmination of an exceptional season for the Nairobi-based side, who have not only won the FKF Women’s National Super League (NSL) Zone A title but also remained unbeaten at home, conceding zero goals on their turf.
After years of determination, heartbreak, and near-misses, Kayole Starlets have officially booked their place in the FKF Women’s Premier League following an emphatic 4-0 win against Sunderland Samba at the Calvary Grounds in Kayole. With this victory, the Starlets soared to 47 points at the summit of the FKF Women’s National Super League Zone A, ensuring promotion with one game still to play.
Goals from Shalin Otieno, captain Sarah Chalovu, Melissa Vivian, and Chris Kach lit up the home crowd, putting the exclamation point on what has been a near-flawless campaign for the Starlets. Their final fixture against Barcelona Falling Waters, scheduled for May 10th, now becomes a celebratory send-off rather than a must-win clash.
Last season, the Starlets came agonizingly close to promotion but fell short in the playoffs against KISPED Queens. This time, they’ve taken matters into their own hands, storming through the season with only one loss, conceding just five goals, and maintaining a perfect defensive record at home.
“This promotion means everything to us,” said the team’s head coach. “We’ve worked tirelessly all year, and to achieve this in front of our fans, at our fortress, is just incredible. Credit to the players and the staff for their unmatched commitment.”
However, the coach also acknowledged upcoming challenges, hinting at potential reinforcements due to the loss of five key players who have returned to university studies. “We’ll be blending experience with youthful energy next season. We know the Premier League demands more, and we’re ready to rise to the occasion.”
Kayole Starlets now join Madira Soccer Assassins, who secured their return to the top flight after winning NSL Zone B. Madira made headlines last year as the first high school team to qualify for the Premier League, though they were relegated after one season due to player unavailability.
Their promotion this year was sealed after Vickers Queens failed to show up for a crucial fixture, granting Madira a walkover and automatic qualification.
As two teams celebrate, the drama isn’t over just yet. The battle for the final playoff spot in Zone B is heating up, with Kakamega Starlets (40 points) and Gedeon Starlets (38 points) locked in a tight race. The winner will face Bandari Queens, who are second in Zone A, for the final Premier League slot.
For now, though, all eyes are on Kayole—where the Starlets have written their redemption story in style, and the Premier League dream has finally become a reality.
