Michael Olunga Bids Farewell to Al-Duhail After Record-Breaking Run

Kenyan striker and Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga has officially parted ways with Qatari side Al-Duhail SC after four impactful years, during which he cemented his legacy as the club’s all-time top scorer with 130 goals.

After four remarkable years in Qatar, Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga has called time on his journey with Al-Duhail SC. The 31-year-old striker leaves the club not only as a fan favorite but also as its all-time leading scorer, having netted an impressive 130 goals in all competitions.

Olunga, who once graced the Kenyan Premier League with stints at Gor Mahia, Tusker, and Thika United, joined Al-Duhail in 2021. His transfer from Japan’s Kashiwa Reysol reportedly cost the Qatari outfit close to Ksh. 1 billion a deal that, in hindsight, proved worth every penny.

During his time with Al-Duhail, Olunga became a symbol of consistency and excellence. In a heartfelt farewell statement, the club paid tribute to their star forward, calling him “an example of professionalism and discipline on and off the pitch.” They praised his crucial role in the team’s success, highlighting the championships and memorable moments he helped create.

Olunga, too, expressed his gratitude in a brief but poignant social media post. “Veni Vidi Vici. Thank you for everything, Al Duhail. Leaving as all-time goal scorer, 130 goals and memories. Thank you for the trust,” he wrote, summing up his journey with grace.

His departure comes after a challenging season in which the club failed to lift any silverware. But for Olunga, the legacy is already written he came, he saw, he conquered.
