Champions Gor Mahia have condemned the hooliganism acts witnessed during their 1-0 defeat to Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) in a SportPesa Premier League match at Kenyatta stadium in Machakos on Sunday.
A handful of Gor fans vented their anger in protest of a throw in awarded against their team a minute before the final whistle causing a 26-minute stoppage.
During this time, police engaged the already agitated fans in running battles that led to destruction of three vehicles.
The KCB team bus had its rear windscreen vandalized and the same spread to two Machakos County-owned ambulances that had packed at the stadium.
We can’t entertain such uncouth behaviour, the perpetrators I believe are known and the police should take action on particularly those who destroyed property,” Gor CEO Lordvick Aduda told Nation Sport on Monday.
He added: “As a club we can’t condone such behaviours and we call upon our fans to be patient and avoid such acts that will cause damage to the club’s much sought after image.”
Gor hosts Sony Sugar in midweek league match on Wednesday, before welcoming Egyptian side Zamalek in their opening Group D match of the Caf Confederation Cup at Kasarani stadium on Sunday.
Last year, crowd trouble depleted Gor’s bank accounts with heavy fines from the Confederation of African Football (Caf) during their 2-1 loss to Rayon Sports of Rwanda in a continental tie.
Further, a source at the Kenyatta stadium in Machakos has informed Nation Sport that the host team, KCB FC, will repair the damages, before seeking compensation from Gor through the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) Limited.
KCB FC will come to assess the damages, do the repairs then write to KPL of the happenings that occasioned the damages, there were no major damages at the stadium facility,” the source, who is not authorised to speak to the media, said.
