AFC Leopards Frustrated by Mara Sugar as Murang’a SEAL, APS Bomet and KCB Shine in Sportpesa League

AFC Leopards endured another frustrating outing in the 2026/27 SportPesa Premier League after being held to a goalless draw by Mara Sugar on Wednesday, October 28, while Murang’a SEAL, APS Bomet and KCB registered important victories in an action-packed fourth round of fixtures.

The midweek matches produced contrasting fortunes across the league, with Murang’a SEAL edging Nairobi United 3-2 in a five-goal thriller, APS Bomet cruising past 3K FC 3-0 and KCB overcoming Mombasa United 3-1. Bandari and Posta Rangers also settled for a goalless draw.

At William Ole Ntimama Stadium in Narok, AFC Leopards were left regretting missed opportunities after failing to break down a determined Mara Sugar side in a closely contested encounter.

Fred Ambani's charges entered the match hoping to secure their second victory of the campaign, having collected five points from their opening three fixtures.

However, Ingwe once again struggled to convert their chances, extending their unbeaten run to four matches but recording a third draw that leaves them with six points from a possible 12.

Leopards almost made the perfect start inside the opening two minutes when Ronald Sichenje released Ugandan forward Samwel Ssenyonjo with a well-weighted through ball.

Ssenyonjo raced into a promising position on the left but dragged his low, left-footed effort narrowly wide, missing an excellent opportunity to put the visitors ahead.

Mara Sugar gradually settled into the contest and came close to breaking the deadlock in the 24th minute when Alex Imbusia rose to meet a delivery into the penalty area, only for his header to strike the woodwork.

The visitors created another promising opening when Sichenje delivered a dangerous cross towards Adama Kanteh, but the ball travelled beyond the forward's reach.

Dennis Cheruiyot nearly gave Mara Sugar the advantage five minutes before halftime, although his left-footed effort was comfortably gathered by Leopards goalkeeper Tom Ikara.

The second half produced further opportunities for both teams, with Kanteh unable to find the finishing touch for Ingwe while Victor Ngume also failed to convert a chance for the hosts.

Despite their efforts, neither side could produce the decisive breakthrough, leaving the two teams to share the points.

The result means Leopards have recorded one victory and three draws from their opening four league matches, raising questions about their attacking efficiency despite maintaining an unbeaten record.

Mara Sugar also moved to six points after four matches, having similarly registered one victory and three draws in their opening fixtures.

Elsewhere, Murang’a SEAL delivered one of the standout performances of the afternoon after securing a thrilling 3-2 victory over Nairobi United at SportPesa Arena.

The hosts were determined to respond positively after suffering defeat to 3K FC in the previous weekend's Mlima Derby, and they produced an impressive attacking display to return to winning ways.

In-form striker Josphat Lopaga continued his remarkable start to the campaign by scoring twice, taking his tally to six goals in just four league appearances.

Majaliwa Charo also found the back of the net to complete Murang’a SEAL's scoring, ensuring the hosts collected maximum points despite a spirited response from Nairobi United.

Former league Golden Boot winner Benson Omalla and Michael Karamor scored for the visitors, but their efforts were insufficient to prevent Nairobi United from suffering their first defeat of the season.

The result handed Murang’a SEAL their second victory of the campaign and provided a timely confidence boost following their disappointment in the Mlima Derby.

For Nairobi United, the defeat extended their wait for a first league victory after drawing their opening three matches.

Despite showing attacking promise and scoring twice, the Nairobi-based outfit were unable to contain Murang’a SEAL's attacking threat and will need to improve defensively as they continue adjusting to life in the top flight.

Meanwhile, APS Bomet produced an emphatic performance to defeat 3K FC 3-0 at Raila Odinga Stadium.

The victory marked an important result for the Bomet-based side, who capitalised on their opportunities to secure all three points against opponents who had entered the encounter with confidence following their recent victory over Murang’a SEAL.

3K FC struggled to reproduce the intensity that had earned them success in the Mlima Derby, allowing APS Bomet to take control and register a convincing win.

The result highlighted the unpredictable nature of the opening weeks of the campaign, with teams continuing to experience contrasting fortunes as they search for consistency.

KCB were also among Wednesday's winners after recording a commanding 3-1 victory over Mombasa United.

The Bankers delivered an effective attacking performance to secure maximum points and strengthen their early-season campaign.

For Mombasa United, the defeat represented another disappointing afternoon as the coastal side continued to struggle for positive results.

Despite finding the back of the net, Mombasa United were unable to contain KCB's attacking threat and conceded three goals in a result that will leave their technical bench searching for solutions.

In another encounter, Bandari and Posta Rangers played out a goalless stalemate, with both teams unable to find a breakthrough.

The result ensured both sides collected a point, although their failure to convert attacking opportunities denied either team the chance to register a valuable victory.

Wednesday's results demonstrated the competitive nature of the SportPesa Premier League, with several clubs already facing pressure to improve their performances as the campaign gathers momentum.

For AFC Leopards, the biggest concern remains their inability to turn promising attacking moves into goals.

Although Ingwe have maintained an unbeaten start, three draws from four fixtures represent a missed opportunity to establish themselves among the early pace-setters.

Ambani will be particularly concerned by his team's finishing after another afternoon in which chances went begging against opponents who were equally determined to protect their unbeaten record.

Murang’a SEAL, meanwhile, will draw encouragement from their attacking performance, with Lopaga's prolific scoring form emerging as one of the early talking points of the campaign.

His six-goal return from four matches has underlined his importance to the Murang'a-based outfit and could prove crucial to their ambitions this season.

APS Bomet and KCB will also take confidence from their convincing victories, while Nairobi United, Mombasa United and 3K FC will be looking to respond positively in their upcoming assignments.

With the fourth round now concluded for the teams involved, attention turns to the next set of fixtures as clubs seek to build momentum, address early weaknesses and establish their positions in what promises to be another competitive season of Kenyan top-flight football.
