Defending champions Gor Mahia maintained their perfect start to the 2026/27 SportPesa League season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Bandari FC at Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Captain Alpha Onyango once again delivered the decisive moment, scoring midway through the second half to secure maximum points for Charles Akonnor's side.

The victory extended Gor Mahia's winning run to three matches following their 4-2 opening-day triumph over Murang'a Seal and a narrow 1-0 victory against APS Bomet.

K'Ogalo began the encounter aggressively and nearly opened the scoring inside the first minute when Paul Ochuoga surged forward before unleashing an effort that struck the crossbar.

Bandari goalkeeper Joseph Ochuka gathered the rebound as the visitors survived an early scare.

The Dockers responded through a set piece, with Andrew Juma rising to meet a delivery but directing his header wide of the target.

Gor Mahia continued dominating the attacking exchanges, although Bandari remained organised defensively and limited clear scoring opportunities.

The hosts came close again in the 40th minute when Frank Odhiambo connected with a powerful header, forcing an excellent reflex save from the Bandari goalkeeper.

Despite their pressure, the defending champions were unable to break the deadlock before half-time.

Gor Mahia returned for the second half with greater attacking intensity as Akonnor's men searched for the breakthrough.

Their persistence eventually paid off when substitute Ebenezer Assifuah dispossessed Brian Odera and delivered a cutback into the penalty area.

Onyango arrived at the right moment and fired into the top corner to give the hosts a deserved advantage.

The midfielder's strike continued his impressive scoring form, having also found the net in Gor Mahia's opening two league fixtures.

The defending champions had opportunities to extend their advantage as Bandari struggled to contain their attacking movement.

Enock Machaka came agonisingly close to doubling the lead after rounding the goalkeeper, only to see his effort strike the crossbar with the goal exposed.

Assifuah also missed a promising opportunity in the closing stages after a defensive misunderstanding presented him with possession inside the penalty area, but he fired over from close range.

Despite failing to convert those chances, Gor Mahia remained disciplined defensively and protected their slender advantage until the final whistle.

The result moved K'Ogalo to nine points from three matches, keeping them at the top of the SportPesa League standings with a perfect record.

For Bandari, the defeat extended their search for a first victory of the campaign after opening the season with successive draws against AFC Leopards and 3K FC.

Elsewhere, Migori Youth and Mathare United settled for a goalless draw at Awendo Green Stadium in an encounter affected by heavy rainfall.

The match was temporarily suspended in the 14th minute because of the downpour before play resumed on a difficult surface.

Migori Youth created several opportunities, with Dennis Oguta and Elly Owande testing Mathare goalkeeper Kevin Ouru during the first half.

The hosts came closest to scoring in the 80th minute when Philemon Nyakwaka's header struck the post, but Mathare held on to claim a point.

Ouru's impressive goalkeeping performance earned him the Man of the Match award.

In another fixture, Ulinzi Stars and Mara Sugar played out a goalless draw at SportPesa Arena.

Mara Sugar threatened through Kepha Ondati and Godrick Vincent, but Ulinzi goalkeeper Ricks Omondi produced important saves to keep his side level.

Ulinzi also threatened to snatch a winner in the second half, only for Mara Sugar defender Drona Langa to make a crucial goal-line clearance.

The league action continues on Sunday, October 25, with 3K FC facing Murang'a Seal, Nairobi United meeting APS Bomet and Mombasa United hosting Kenya Police.

AFC Leopards will also face Shabana FC at Nyayo National Stadium as they look to build on their victory over Kenya Police.

For Gor Mahia, the latest success strengthens their early title defence, with Akonnor's side collecting maximum points while conceding just two goals across their opening three matches.
