Alpha Onyango struck four minutes from time as Gor Mahia battled to a 1-0 victory over APS Bomet in their FKF Premier League encounter at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay on Saturday.

The midfielder delivered the decisive moment in the 86th minute, converting after substitute Ben Stanley laid the ball into his path near the edge of the penalty area.

The victory gave K'Ogalo maximum points from their opening two matches of the 2026/27 campaign following their 4-2 win over Murang'a Seal in their season opener.

APS Bomet went into the match searching for their first victory after beginning the campaign with a goalless draw against Mathare United.

Both sides showed attacking intent from the opening stages, with Musa Shariff causing problems for the Bomet defence before the hosts responded with opportunities of their own.

Phillip Wasai rose to meet a Francis Otieno delivery in the 10th minute, but Gor goalkeeper Kevin Omondi blocked his effort. Rodgers Kipkemboi collected the rebound but was unable to find a way past the goalkeeper.

Gor soon threatened again when Onyango collected a loose ball around the edge of the box and fired narrowly wide.

Brian Buletti then missed an opportunity for Bomet after being set up by Kipkemboi, while Dennis Omedi tested goalkeeper Maxwell Mulili with a low effort following a pass from Onyango.

Shariff continued to provide an attacking outlet for Gor and delivered from the left for Patrice Esombe, whose volley drifted narrowly wide.

Ebenezer Ocran went even closer after receiving a pass from Esombe, beating his marker and unleashing a powerful effort that was kept out before going narrowly wide.

Bomet remained dangerous on the counterattack, with Frank Mandela forcing Omondi into a save after being picked out by Kipkemboi.

The two teams continued trading chances without finding the breakthrough, and Omondi denied Wasai again late in the opening half to ensure the contest remained goalless at the interval.

Gor returned for the second half with renewed urgency. Jackson Dwang collected a loose ball outside the penalty area and attempted a looping effort that narrowly missed the target.

Bomet responded when Mandela headed wide from a delivery by Francis Omondi, before Ugandan forward Bruno Bunyaga broke through the Gor defence only for Potiphar Odhiambo to intervene.

Gor head coach Charles Akonnor made a triple change around the hour mark, introducing Ben Stanley, Daniel Sakari and Enock Machaka as he looked for a way through the resilient Bomet defence.

The substitutions nearly produced an immediate breakthrough when Machaka met an Onyango delivery and forced Mulili into a save.

Bunyaga then threatened at the opposite end, curling an effort narrowly wide as Bomet continued to show they were capable of punishing Gor on the counter.

With time running out, Gor increased the pressure. Shariff fired narrowly wide following a strong run before Buletti intervened to deny him another opportunity after Onyango had played him into a promising position.

The pressure eventually paid off in the 86th minute.

Stanley found Onyango near the edge of the box and the midfielder kept his composure, driving a low effort beyond the Bomet defence to finally break the deadlock.

APS Bomet pushed forward in search of an equaliser during the closing stages, but Gor held firm to secure their second successive league victory.

The result takes Gor Mahia to six points from their first two matches and preserves their perfect start to the new campaign.

APS Bomet, meanwhile, suffered their first defeat of the season and remain without a victory after collecting one point from their opening two fixtures.

Elsewhere, KCB secured their first victory of the campaign with a 1-0 win over Mathare United at Police Sacco Grounds.

New signing Mambote Batshi Assis scored the decisive goal for the Bankers, leaving Mathare still searching for their first victory after two matches.
