Erling Haaland scored twice as Manchester City survived a spirited Ipswich Town challenge to claim a 3-2 Premier League victory at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
Phil Foden opened the scoring before Daizen Maeda produced an immediate response for Ipswich, but Haaland restored City's advantage before half-time and added another after the break.
Zian Flemming converted a late penalty to set up a tense finish, but City survived 12 minutes of added time to preserve their perfect start to the Premier League season.
The result means Enzo Maresca has won each of his first seven league matches in charge of City, becoming the first manager to win his opening seven Premier League games with a club.
City have also become only the third team in Premier League history to win their opening seven matches of a season, following Chelsea in 2005/06 and Liverpool in 2019/20.
Saturday's encounter was City's first home Premier League fixture since the club was found guilty of breaching financial rules, a verdict they are appealing.
City supporters made their feelings clear before kick-off by booing the Premier League anthem, while inflatable bananas were visible around the stadium as part of a revived tradition among the home support.
On the pitch, City quickly established control of possession against an Ipswich side that defended deep and committed numbers behind the ball.
The hosts initially struggled to break through the compact defensive structure, despite dominating the ball for long periods.
Jeremy Doku eventually provided the breakthrough with an excellent piece of work on the left before finding Foden, who swept home to score his first Premier League goal since December.
Ipswich responded just 155 seconds later.
Marc Guehi failed to deal with a dangerous situation behind him, allowing Maeda to race onto Abdoul Ouattara's pass and finish past the goalkeeper to bring the visitors level.
City recovered before the interval, with Haaland restoring their lead after Mateo Kovacic found space in an advanced position.
The Norwegian's header lacked its usual power, but goalkeeper Christian Walton was unable to keep it out as the ball found its way into the net.
City continued searching for greater control after the restart but were repeatedly frustrated by a disciplined Ipswich performance.
Their third eventually arrived following a flowing attacking move. Iliman Ndiaye released Haaland, who produced a composed finish to give City breathing room.
Haaland thought he had completed his hat-trick with an acrobatic finish later in the contest, but the effort was ruled out following a VAR review for an offside against Enzo Fernandez during the build-up.
The goal would have added another milestone to Haaland's afternoon after the striker reached 100 non-penalty Premier League goals in 139 appearances, faster than any player in the competition's history.
Ipswich refused to surrender and were rewarded in the 90th minute when Guehi was judged to have fouled Abdul Fatawu inside the penalty area.
Flemming stepped forward and converted the resulting spot-kick to reduce the deficit to one.
City were then forced to withstand an extended period of stoppage time as Ipswich searched for a dramatic equaliser, but Maresca's side held firm to collect another three points.
The victory moved City six points clear at the top of the Premier League table and continued a remarkable opening to Maresca's tenure.
There were, however, injury concerns for the hosts.
Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes were forced off during the game, while Haaland and Antoine Semenyo appeared to be struggling physically during the closing stages. Nico O'Reilly also suffered an injury concern.
Haaland was unable to be substituted after City had used their available changes and headed down the tunnel following the final whistle.
Ipswich manager Gary O'Neil was left disappointed despite an encouraging performance from his promoted side, who remained competitive against the league leaders until the final moments.
City will now turn their attention to their next assignment with their winning momentum intact, although the fitness of several key players will be closely monitored.
