The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has issued a fresh warning to all 18 SportPesa Premier League clubs over the use of flares, smoke bombs, fireworks and other pyrotechnic materials during match days.
In an official communique dated Friday, October 23, 2026, the federation reiterated that pyrotechnics are strictly prohibited inside stadiums and their surrounding areas, warning that violations will attract disciplinary sanctions.
The directive follows reports of pyrotechnic incidents at several league matches despite clubs having been informed of the prohibition at the beginning of the 2026/27 season.
FKF expressed concern over the continued use of such materials, prompting the governing body to remind clubs of their responsibilities in maintaining safety and security during football matches.
The federation emphasised that the prohibition covers all forms of pyrotechnics, including flares, smoke bombs and fireworks, regardless of whether they are used inside stadiums or within their immediate surroundings.
Clubs have now been instructed to communicate the directive to their supporters and take appropriate preventive measures in collaboration with match organisers and relevant security personnel.
The governing body also made it clear that any further incidents could result in disciplinary action against those found responsible, in accordance with applicable football regulations.
The warning places renewed responsibility on Premier League clubs to ensure that supporters comply with stadium safety requirements during match days.
FKF expects clubs to work closely with security officials and match organisers to prevent prohibited materials from being brought into or used around football venues.
The federation has not specified particular clubs involved in the reported incidents or announced any new penalties in the latest communication.
However, its warning signals an intention to enforce existing regulations as the 2026/27 SportPesa Premier League campaign continues.
The directive comes as clubs seek to maintain strong supporter engagement throughout the season, with FKF emphasising that football celebrations must remain within established safety regulations.
In its communication, the federation acknowledged the continued cooperation of league clubs and urged them to uphold safety, security and orderly conduct at all SportPesa Premier League matches.
All 18 top-flight clubs are expected to comply with the directive and ensure their supporters are adequately informed of the restrictions.
