Tusker FC made a winning start to the 2026/27 SportPesa League season after beating Ulinzi Stars 2-0 on Sunday, while the other three matches on the second day of the campaign all ended in draws.
The Brewers secured all three points at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Lang'ata through second-half goals from Alvin Mang'eni and Victor Mbaoma.
Ulinzi started brightly and threatened as early as the fourth minute when Jacob Onyango put the Tusker defence under pressure and forced a corner.
Tusker responded three minutes later through Fabian Adikiny, but the 2025/26 Most Valuable Player directed his effort straight at Ulinzi goalkeeper Ricks Omondi.
Tusker goalkeeper Perrauld Ndinga was called into action in the 27th minute, keeping out a Boniface Muchiri delivery intended for Onyango at the far post.
John Otieno then came close to breaking the deadlock shortly before half-time, rising to meet an Ian Simiyu corner before sending his header narrowly wide.
Ulinzi substitute Maxwell Onyango had another opportunity in the 58th minute, but his volley failed to trouble the Tusker goal.
The Brewers eventually found the breakthrough in the 68th minute. Simiyu supplied a cutback for Mang'eni, who placed his finish beyond the stretching Omondi to give Tusker the lead.
Ulinzi had an immediate opportunity to respond when Muchiri delivered a free-kick into the area, but Ndinga produced another save to protect Tusker's advantage.
Mbaoma doubled the lead in the 75th minute after capitalising on a mistake by Ken Odhiambo before lifting the ball over Omondi.
Tusker coach Julien Mette was later shown a red card, becoming the first coach to be sent off during the new league campaign.
The result also allowed Tusker to avenge their 2-0 defeat to Ulinzi at the same venue in May 2026. The Brewers had won the previous two meetings between the sides 1-0 before that defeat.
Elsewhere, newly promoted 3K FC marked their first SportPesa League appearance with a 2-2 draw against Mara Sugar at Moi Stadium in Embu.
The match was the first top-flight meeting between the two clubs. 3K FC entered the Premier League after finishing second in the National Super League last season, while Mara Sugar are competing in their third consecutive top-flight campaign.
NSL champions Migori Youth also earned a point on their Premier League debut after holding Kenya Police FC to a 1-1 draw at Green Stadium in Awendo.
The fixture was another first-ever top-flight meeting, with Migori Youth beginning life among Kenya's elite against a Kenya Police side that had finished the previous campaign on a five-match unbeaten run.
Nairobi United and KCB produced another four-goal contest at Police Sacco Stadium, sharing the points in a 2-2 draw.
Nairobi United remain unbeaten against the Bankers in their recent top-flight meetings. They defeated KCB 2-0 away on January 15, 2026, before the teams drew 1-1 on March 2.
Sunday's results leave Tusker as the only team from the day's four fixtures to collect maximum points, while Ulinzi begin their campaign with defeat and six other sides take a point apiece.
