Eric Kapaito’s well-taken volley proved decisive as his side edged Murang’a Seal 1-0 in Sportpesa League encounter played at St. Sebastian Park, Murang’a, on Sunday afternoon.
After a series of draws to start the campaign, the victory marked the team’s first of the season a much-needed result built on tactical discipline and a moment of individual brilliance from their star forward.
The visitors began brightly, dictating play through midfield where Fabian, returning to the starting lineup, combined effectively with Iguma to maintain control. Their early intent almost paid off in the 42nd minute when skipper Eugene Momanyi rose highest to meet a free kick, but his bouncing header drifted just wide of the post.
Both teams went into the halftime break locked at 0-0, but the visitors made key changes at the interval, introducing Ian and Oalo in place of Polepole and Oguta to add pace and creativity. The substitutions injected fresh energy, with Fabian later testing the Seal goalkeeper from the edge of the box in the 57th minute — his rising effort narrowly clearing the crossbar.
The decisive moment arrived in the 79th minute. Substitute Oalo chased a clever through ball down the right wing and, with his first touch, delivered a pinpoint cross to an unmarked Kapaito inside the penalty area. The forward showed impeccable technique, volleying home to break the deadlock and send the away fans into celebration.
Coach’s side managed the closing stages professionally, bringing on Oruko for Omolle to shore up midfield and preserve the narrow lead. Despite late pressure from the hosts, the defense, marshaled by debutant Teka, held firm to secure all three points.
The result not only gave the team their first win of the campaign but also restored confidence after a run of frustrating results. Kapaito’s return to form will also come as a major boost as the side prepares for upcoming fixtures in the league.
