Kenya Police FC celebrated their maiden league title at Ulinzi Sports Complex despite being held 1-1 by dethroned champions Gor Mahia. While the coronation was undisturbed, the relegation battle saw FC Talanta and Nairobi City Stars drop to the second tier, with Posta Rangers earning a lifeline via playoff.

Kenya Police FC capped off their historic 2024/25 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) campaign with a 1-1 draw against Gor Mahia at Ulinzi Sports Complex on Sunday, in a match that bore little consequence to their coronation but marked the end of a tense season across the table.

Gor Mahia struck first against the run of play, Shariff Musa putting the visitors ahead, but substitute David Okoth salvaged a point for Police with a well-placed header in the 56th minute. The champions, already confirmed a week earlier, lifted their first-ever KPL trophy after the final whistle, marking a stellar season.

Despite the festive atmosphere at the top, the bottom of the table told a grim tale. Nairobi City Stars and FC Talanta were relegated after finishing 18th and 17th respectively. City Stars could only manage a goalless draw against Mathare United, while Talanta’s narrow 1-0 loss to Murang’a Seal sealed their fate.

The survival fight was fierce. Posta Rangers and Bidco United, both finishing level on 35 points with the relegated teams, survived due to marginally better tiebreakers. Posta’s head-to-head edge over Talanta, combined with Bidco’s superior goal difference, ensured their continued top-flight presence.

Posta Rangers now face National Super League’s third-placed Naivas FC in a crucial promotion-relegation playoff after battling to a 1-1 draw against Bandari in Mombasa. Beja Nyamawi gave Bandari an early lead, but former Dockers forward Felix Oluoch equalized to keep Posta’s season alive.

Meanwhile, the champions made tactical changes at halftime, bringing on Okoth and Kenneth Muguna to pile pressure on Gor. Their persistence paid off with Okoth’s equalizer, though the match fizzled out in the final third despite late substitutions from both sides.

Elsewhere, Shabana, Kariobangi Sharks, and AFC Leopards wrapped up their seasons with respectable results, while Bidco United claimed a critical 2-1 win over Sofapaka to avoid the playoff zone.

As curtains closed on the season, Kenya Police FC’s campaign stood tall—a story of dominance, discipline, and a deserved championship. Focus now turns to the playoff, the transfer window, and the promise of an even more competitive 2025/26 season.

Final Day Results:

Bandari FC 1-1 Posta Rangers

Nairobi City Stars 0-0 Mathare United

Sofapaka 1-2 Bidco United

Kakamega Homeboyz 0-0 Tusker FC
