The FKF Women’s Premier League title race will go down to the wire after Ulinzi Starlets were handed a crucial walkover victory against Zetech Sparks. The decision, following a player eligibility protest, sees Ulinzi close the gap to leaders Kenya Police Bullets FC to just two points with one round of fixtures remaining.
The FKF Women’s Premier League (FKFWPL) is poised for a dramatic finish after the Leagues and Competitions Committee officially awarded Ulinzi Starlets FC a walkover win against Zetech Sparks FC for fielding an ineligible player in their recent fixture.
In a decisive ruling issued this week, the Committee confirmed that Zetech Sparks breached league regulations by including Bertha Omita in their matchday squad without completing her transfer process and failing to present her Football Kenya Federation (FKF) license for verification. The match, played on May 8, 2025, at Ruaraka Grounds in Nairobi, was initially contested on the field, but the subsequent protest lodged by Ulinzi Starlets led to an official review.
The Committee, having gone through submissions from Zetech Sparks FC and match officials’ reports, established that the player’s transfer to Zetech Sparks was not finalized prior to the league match,” the FKF ruling read.
“Additionally, Zetech Sparks did not present Bertha Omita’s FKF license for verification before the match.”
The Committee further cited Article 3.8.3 of the FKF Regulations, which clearly states that any player whose license cannot be presented by club officials at the time of inspection is ineligible to participate in the respective competition. As a result, Zetech Sparks FC was found guilty and penalized under Article 3.8.4, which mandates forfeiture of the match in such cases.
With this decision, Ulinzi Starlets FC were awarded a 2-0 walkover victory.
The ruling significantly impacts the title race standings, with Ulinzi Starlets now moving to 41 points, just two behind league leaders Kenya Police Bullets FC, who lead with 43 points after 20 matches.
With only one round of fixtures left, the league title will be decided on May 25, 2025. Kenya Police Bullets will be chasing back-to-back league titles when they face Trinity Starlets at the Afraha Stadium in Nakuru. A win or a draw will be enough for the champions to retain their crown.
Meanwhile, Ulinzi Starlets will be hoping for a Kenya Police slip-up as they host Kisumu Allstarlets FC at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi. A Ulinzi victory combined with a Police Bullets loss would see Ulinzi Starlets claim their maiden league title in dramatic fashion.
