Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly preparing to take charge of Brazil’s national team, departing Real Madrid after a disappointing season, with his appointment expected ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Veteran coach Carlo Ancelotti is set to become the next manager of Brazil’s national football team, according to multiple Spanish media outlets. The Italian tactician, who currently has one year remaining on his contract with Real Madrid, is expected to leave the club following a season that has fallen short of expectations.
Real Madrid’s recent quarter-final exit from the Champions League at the hands of Arsenal and a Copa del Rey loss to fierce rivals Barcelona have fueled speculation about Ancelotti’s future. After the Barcelona defeat, Ancelotti admitted that his position would be discussed in the coming weeks.
Reports suggest that Ancelotti will step in as Brazil’s head coach ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June, exiting Madrid before the Club World Cup in the United States this summer.
Brazil are looking for a turnaround after parting ways with Dorival Junior in March following a 4-1 defeat to Argentina. Currently sitting fourth in the South American qualifying standings, the Selecao are banking on Ancelotti’s experience to guide them forward.
Ancelotti enjoyed major success in his second spell at Real Madrid, leading them to a La Liga and Champions League double last season. Brazilian stars Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo were instrumental in that campaign, strengthening his ties with the national setup.
Over two stints at Madrid, Ancelotti has lifted the Champions League trophy three times, including the historic “La Decima” in his first tenure. He was initially dismissed in 2015 but returned in 2021 following Zinedine Zidane’s departure.
Despite his impressive resume, Madrid have shown defensive frailty this season and trail La Liga leaders Barcelona by four points, leaving a league title as their last shot at silverware.
Ancelotti’s illustrious managerial career also includes stints at AC Milan, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain, making him one of the most respected figures in world football.
