After winning the last Supercup in Dortmund, Bayern Munich started the new German season with a trophy in hand, defeating Borussia Dortmund 2-1 at Signal Iduna Park.
Nathaniel Brown made his debut for Bayern and scored first before Michael Olise hit the post soon before half-time. Fabio Silva restored Dortmund's morale in the second half but Vincent Kompany's side had the better of them.
With the win, Bayern got another piece of silverware after their Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double last season and their 12th German Supercup.
Bayern dominated the early game, and slowly started to build up the pressure on Dortmund.
On the right, Olise was an important figure and was a major factor in the breakthrough in the 28th minute.
The France international controlled Joshua Kimmich's long pass and kept it up before passing it to Brown in the area. The debutant hit the ball with a measured low shot and the ball was on the Bayern target.
Brown was almost on target second time when Luis Diaz fed him past the far post.
With Dortmund trailing, the lanky Bensebaini produced a beautiful pass and curled a shot into the net in the 43rd minute, but the assistant referee ruled it offside. That decision was also affirmed by a VAR review.
Bayern would retaliate in the first-half stoppage-time.
Dortmund was thrown in and Olise took it down on the penalty area and hammered his past Gregor Kobel to make it 2-0.
But Niko Kovac found the solution as Dortmund looked to find their way back in when he introduced Giannis Konstantelias at the start of the second half.
The changes assisted the hosts to increase their performance.
Dortmund could now be spending more time in Bayern territory with a crucial save in the 53rd minute coming from Konstantinos Karetsas as Neuer was forced into a shot-saving effort from a Dortmund defender.
Kovac came up with additional attacking adjustments just after the 1 hour mark, with Fabian Silva, Maximilian Beier and Joey Veerman added to the lineup.
The pressure finally manifested itself in the 75th minute with a goal.
Silva was able to turn in a low cross after Daniel Svensson played a long pass to Konstatelias who drove in. Neuer was beaten by the substitute's deflected finish, bringing Dortmund to a 2-1 lead.
The otherwise relaxed night turned tense towards the end, as Bayern suddenly felt the pressure.
Olise tried to put the two-goal lead back by slotting a low strike into the hands of Kobel, who made a quick save.
The situation was difficult for Dortmund in the 90th minute when Bensebaini was sent off for a late challenge on Ismael Saibari.
Dortmund nevertheless had a huge chance to push for more action as they were down to a ten-man team.
In stoppage time, Waldemar Anton passed directly to Beier inside the area but the substitute took a direct kick from close range as Bayern managed to get away.
The final whistle put the scoring 2-1 in Bayern's favour and their 8th title for Kompany's side.
Olise put in a major contribution with a goal and an assist while Brown had a memorable debut in the competition with the first goal.
The Bundesliga is now back on after Bayern faced relegation, with the Bavarians facing Stuttgart and Dortmund opening their campaign against Hamburg.
