Olise Masterclass as Bayern Crush Freiburg 6–2
Michael Olise delivered a sensational two-goal, three-assist performance as Bayern Munich stormed back from 2–0 down to demolish Freiburg 6–2 and extend their lead at the top of the Bundesliga.
Bayern Munich produced one of their most explosive comebacks of the season, overturning an early 2–0 deficit to dismantle Freiburg 6–2 at the Allianz Arena. The evening belonged to Michael Olise, who delivered a breathtaking individual performance with two goals and three assists, driving Bayern to an emphatic victory and keeping them firmly atop the Bundesliga table.
Freiburg stunned the home crowd inside 12 minutes when Jan-Niklas Beste’s flat corner was flicked on by Matthias Ginter, allowing Yuito Suzuki to guide a composed finish into the bottom corner. Barely five minutes later, Beste delivered again from the set piece, this time finding Johan Manzambi, whose powerful header doubled the visitors’ advantage and momentarily silenced the Allianz.
Bayern, however, responded with the ruthlessness of champions. Olise ignited the rally with a dazzling run from midfield in the 22nd minute before laying the ball off to Lennart Karl, who drove a low strike into the far corner. The winger continued to dictate every attacking move Bayern produced, and just before halftime, his combination play with Karl tore Freiburg open once more. Karl returned the favour with a neat through-ball, and Olise buried the equaliser into the bottom-right corner to make it 2–2 at the break.
Kompany’s side carried that momentum into the second half and never looked back. Olise delivered an inch-perfect corner in the 55th minute, picking out an unmarked Dayot Upamecano at the far post for Bayern’s third. Freiburg attempted to steady themselves, but Bayern’s attacking surge was relentless.
The pressure eventually told again. After fine work from Pavlović and Karl in tight spaces, Harry Kane rifled a clinical finish inside the bottom-right post to give Bayern a 4–2 lead on the hour mark. The England captain had earlier been denied by Atubolu, but he made no mistake when the chance opened up.
Substitute Nicolas Jackson then added Bayern’s fifth in the 78th minute, converting calmly after Olise skipped past his marker and threaded a perfectly weighted ball into his stride. It was Olise’s third assist of the night — and still, he wasn’t finished.
The Frenchman capped off his unforgettable evening six minutes from full time. Picking up a high ball from substitute Hiroki Ito, Olise drifted past two defenders, set himself, and curled a sensational 20-yard strike into the top-left corner. It was a breathtaking goal to seal a breathtaking performance.
The win extends Bayern’s lead at the top of the Bundesliga to eight points over Bayer Leverkusen and keeps their unbeaten domestic run intact.
Next up, Bayern travel to London for a heavyweight Champions League showdown with Arsenal, followed by a home fixture against St. Pauli. Freiburg, now 10th, will turn their attention to the Europa League when they meet Viktoria Plzeň before hosting Mainz next weekend.
