Dortmund and Stuttgart Share Six-Goal Thriller
Borussia Dortmund and VfB Stuttgart played out a dramatic 3–3 draw after a chaotic second half saw late goals, swings of momentum, and a stoppage-time equaliser from Deniz Undav.
Borussia Dortmund and VfB Stuttgart delivered one of the most entertaining matches of the Bundesliga weekend, drawing 3–3 at Signal Iduna Park in a pulsating contest that featured momentum shifts, defensive lapses, and a dramatic finish deep into stoppage time.
Dortmund made the perfect start to the first half, controlling territory and forcing Stuttgart into mistakes. The breakthrough arrived in the 34th minute when Emre Can confidently dispatched a penalty into the bottom-left corner after VAR confirmed a foul inside the box. Just seven minutes later, Die Schwarzgelben doubled their advantage. Maximilian Beier reacted quickest inside a crowded six-yard area, poking home from close range to put Dortmund 2–0 up heading into halftime.
Stuttgart, however, emerged from the break transformed. Within a minute of the restart, Bilal El Khannouss rose highest to nod a clever pass across the goalmouth, allowing Deniz Undav to slam home and halve the deficit. The visitors continued to grow in confidence, and their pressure paid off again in the 71st minute. Maximilian Mittelstädt guided a header back across goal from a corner, and Undav arrived perfectly to finish from point-blank range — his second of the evening bringing the match level at 2–2.
Dortmund responded with urgency, pouring forward in search of a winner. Their reward came in the 89th minute when Beier sparked a devastating counterattack, driving forward before slipping a well-timed ball into Karim Adeyemi. The winger finished coolly from close range, restoring Dortmund’s lead at 3–2 and sending the home crowd into a frenzy.
But Stuttgart refused to accept defeat. With the clock ticking into added time, Chris Führich threaded a precise pass into the box for Undav, who completed his hat-trick with a crisp low finish into the bottom-left corner. The equaliser made it 3–3 in the 91st minute and ensured both sides walked away with a share of the points.
The result felt like a missed opportunity for Dortmund after a strong first half, while Stuttgart showed tremendous resolve to claw back the match twice. Undav’s outstanding hat-trick was the defining performance, while Beier and Adeyemi were Dortmund’s standout contributors.
Both clubs remain firmly in the hunt near the top half of the Bundesliga table as the season continues to intensify.
