Newcastle United have completed the signing of Bosnia-Herzegovina international Amar Dedic from Portuguese giants Benfica for a reported fee of £30 million.

The 24-year-old right-back has signed a five-year contract with the Premier League club and becomes the latest addition to Matthias Jaissle’s new-look squad at St James’ Park.

Dedic arrives with international and European experience after representing Bosnia-Herzegovina at the 2026 World Cup, where he started three matches.

His move to Newcastle will also reunite him with Jaissle, who previously coached the defender during their time together at Red Bull Salzburg.

The pair were part of the Salzburg side that won the Austrian Bundesliga title in 2023.

Dedic joined Salzburg in 2019 and initially developed through feeder club Liefering, where he first worked under Jaissle.

He later spent time on loan with Austrian side Wolfsberger before also featuring for French club Marseille.

The defender subsequently joined Benfica on a permanent transfer, continuing his development before Newcastle moved to bring him to the Premier League.

Dedic has also established himself at international level, earning 31 appearances for Bosnia-Herzegovina.

His ability to operate at right-back gives Jaissle another young defensive option as Newcastle reshape their squad following a summer of significant change.

The Magpies have lost several established first-team players during the transfer window.

Anthony Gordon has joined Barcelona, while Italy midfielder Sandro Tonali moved to Tottenham Hotspur.

Brazil international Bruno Guimaraes also left St James’ Park to join Arsenal.

The departures followed the exit of Eddie Howe, who stepped down after nearly five years in charge before Jaissle was appointed as his successor.

Newcastle have responded by targeting younger players capable of forming the core of their next team.

Defensive midfielder Aladji Bamba and Ivory Coast winger Bazoumana Toure are among the club’s new recruits, while goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek has also joined.

Dedic now becomes another important piece of that rebuilding project as Newcastle prepare for the start of the Premier League season.

His previous relationship with Jaissle could help him settle quickly as the German coach implements his ideas at the club.

Newcastle will begin their Premier League campaign at home to Liverpool on Sunday, with Dedic potentially in contention to make his first appearance for the Magpies.
