Olise Stars as Bayern Rout Bodo/Glimt in Champions League Opener

Michael Olise led the way with two goals and an assist, while Jamal Musiala, Harry Kane and Alphonso Davies also found the net as Vincent Kompany's side turned a frustrating opening half into a comprehensive victory.

Bayern dominated possession from the opening stages but initially struggled to convert their superiority into goals.

Luis Diaz came close after five minutes when Joshua Kimmich delivered into the six-yard area, but the winger's downward header was turned over by Nikita Haikin from close range.

Harry Kane also tested Haikin from distance before Bodo/Glimt settled into a compact defensive shape designed to frustrate the six-time European champions.

The visitors rarely threatened Manuel Neuer's goal, but their organisation kept Bayern at bay for much of the first half.

Kimmich came closest to breaking the deadlock in the 35th minute when he unleashed a powerful left-footed strike from around 25 yards.

Haikin was beaten, but the ball crashed against the post as Bodo/Glimt survived again.

Musiala then forced another strong save from the goalkeeper after weaving his way through several challenges on the edge of the penalty area.

Bayern continued increasing the pressure and almost scored shortly before half-time when Kimmich met Davies' delivery with a well-struck volley, only for Haikin to keep the effort out with his legs.

The teams therefore reached the interval goalless despite Bayern recording 72 percent possession and an expected-goals total of 1.0 compared with Bodo/Glimt's 0.1.

Bodo/Glimt were forced into a significant change at half-time when Haikin was unable to continue because of an injury sustained late in the opening period.

Julian Faye Lund replaced him in goal.

Bayern needed only 78 seconds to beat the substitute.

Kane was involved in the build-up before the ball ricocheted into Musiala's path, and the Germany international produced an excellent volley from a tight angle to finally break Bodo/Glimt's resistance.

The breakthrough changed the complexion of the contest.

Bayern began playing with greater freedom and doubled their advantage in the 61st minute.

Olise delivered a fierce free-kick from the right and Kane attacked it inside the penalty area, directing a header beyond Lund to make it 2-0.

The goal extended Kane's remarkable Champions League scoring run to eight consecutive appearances, moving him one match away from matching Robert Lewandowski's nine-game streak for Bayern between 2020 and 2021.

Bodo/Glimt briefly threatened with an ambitious attempt from Andreas Helmersen after Neuer had moved away from his goal, but the shot drifted wide.

Bayern soon resumed their pressure.

Davies effectively settled the match in the 77th minute with one of the goals of the night.

Bodo/Glimt failed to properly clear Olise's corner, allowing the ball to fall towards Davies on the edge of the penalty area.

The Canadian defender ran onto it and unleashed a thunderous left-footed strike into the far corner to make it 3-0.

Olise then produced an even more spectacular finish six minutes later.

Lennart Karl, introduced from the bench, found the France international approximately 25 yards from goal.

Olise opened his body and curled an outstanding left-footed effort beyond Lund and into the far corner for Bayern's fourth.

The evening became even more difficult for Bodo/Glimt in the 87th minute when Odin Bjortuft was shown a straight red card.

Bjortuft clipped Olise's heels just outside the penalty area as the winger attempted to race onto a through ball, leaving the visitors to complete the match with 10 men.

Olise was not finished.

Deep into stoppage time, he reacted quickest when Bodo/Glimt surrendered possession near their own penalty area.

The winger drove towards goal before curling another excellent finish beyond Lund to complete his brace and Bayern's 5-0 victory.

Bayern finished the contest with an expected-goals total of 2.49 compared with just 0.20 for their opponents, reflecting the significant difference in attacking output.

For Kompany, the second-half performance provided an emphatic response after an opening period in which his side had created chances without finding the finishing touch.

Olise was at the centre of the transformation, contributing directly to three goals and repeatedly causing problems for the Norwegian champions from the right side.

Kane continued his impressive European scoring sequence, Musiala provided the breakthrough and Davies added a spectacular goal from distance as Bayern demonstrated the attacking depth available to them.

Neuer also marked his 18th Champions League season with a clean sheet, setting a new record for a German player in the competition.

Bayern now turn their attention back to domestic competition before continuing a Champions League campaign in which they will hope to challenge for a first European title since 2020.

Bodo/Glimt, meanwhile, must recover quickly from a difficult night in Munich after beginning their league-phase campaign with a heavy defeat.
