  • Bayern Munich produced another commanding Bundesliga display as they beat Borussia Monchengladbach 4-1 at the Allianz Arena to strengthen their grip on the title race.

Bayern Munich tightened their grip on the Bundesliga title after powering to a convincing 4-1 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach at the Allianz Arena on Friday night.

The Bavarians were once again too strong on home soil, turning control into goals and moving a huge 14 points clear at the top of the table after another ruthless attacking display.

The home side thought they had made the perfect start when Lennart Karl found the net in the 11th minute, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside. Even so, Bayern did not lose their rhythm and continued to dominate possession while pinning Gladbach deep inside their own half.

Their pressure eventually paid off in the 33rd minute. Leon Goretzka, surrounded by defenders on the edge of the box, showed brilliant vision to clip a clever pass into the path of Luis Diaz, who met it with a fine volley and fired beyond Moritz Nicolas for the opener.

It was a goal that reflected Bayern's growing authority in the contest and it gave Vincent Kompany's side the reward their control deserved.

Gladbach tried to stay in the game and looked for moments on the counter, but Bayern's pressing and movement continued to suffocate them. Just when the visitors were hoping to reach halftime still only one goal down, Bayern struck again in stoppage time.

Nicolas Jackson, leading the line in the absence of the injured Harry Kane, helped launch a quick counter attack before Diaz received the ball on the left and squared it into the box. Konrad Laimer arrived in space and smashed home to make it 2-0, giving Bayern real breathing space before the break.

That second goal effectively knocked the wind out of Gladbach, and matters became even worse for the visitors 10 minutes into the second half.

Jackson wriggled his way into the penalty area and was dragged down from behind by Rocco Reitz, leaving the referee with little option but to point to the spot. Reitz was shown a red card for the foul, and Bayern were suddenly in total command both on the scoreboard and in numbers.

Jamal Musiala stepped up and calmly converted the penalty for his first Bundesliga goal since returning from injury, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to make it 3-0.

With Gladbach down to 10 men, Bayern continued to push and were rewarded again in the 79th minute. Youngster Lennart Karl burst to the right byline and fizzed a low cross into the danger area, where Jackson was on hand to finish from close range. The goal came as a welcome relief for the striker, who had not scored in the league since November.

At 4-0, Bayern looked set for a complete cruise, but Gladbach still managed a late moment of history. In the 89th minute, Wael Mohya reacted quickest after Jonas Urbig made a save, slamming the rebound in off the post to become the first 17-year-old to score for Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga.

It was a bright moment in an otherwise difficult evening for the visitors, who were second best for most of the contest and now remain uncomfortably close to the relegation play-off places.

For Bayern, this was another powerful statement in the title race. Even without Kane, they showed quality, depth and control, with Diaz outstanding in attack, Musiala looking sharper with every minute, and Goretzka influential in midfield.

Kompany's men now appear to be marching steadily toward the Bundesliga crown, and on this evidence, it will take something extraordinary to stop them.
