The FKF Premier League served up a spicy Saturday surprise as Ulinzi Stars edged out league leaders Kenya Police 1-0 in a tense battle at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.
Kenya Police came into the clash riding high, but Ulinzi had other plans—delivering a disciplined, spirited performance to claim three huge points. The lone goal came courtesy of star forward Boniface Muchiri, who made the most of a slick pass from Yusuf Mutheli to slot home after the break.
The visitors dominated the opening stages and had Ulinzi keeper Ismail Emuria working overtime. Emuria, however, was in top form, pulling off a string of impressive saves to keep the scores level—including a stunning stop in the 25th minute after a dangerous free-kick.
A first-half injury to Kenya Police’s Kenneth Muguna forced an early change, with Tyson Otieno stepping in. Despite the disruption, Kenya Police kept pushing, but Ulinzi slowly grew into the game and began testing Job Ochieng in goal.
The second half was all action, and when Ulinzi broke the deadlock through Muchiri, the pressure was squarely on the league leaders. Kenya Police threw everything forward, making triple substitutions and dominating possession, but they simply couldn’t find a way past Emuria.
Late efforts from Irishura, Simiyu, and Mang’eni were all denied by the inspired Ulinzi shot-stopper, who sealed his clean sheet and all three points for the hosts.
While Kenya Police stay top—for now—Tusker FC are breathing down their necks with a game in hand, setting up a nail-biting run-in to the season’s end.
