Motta, a 41-year-old Italian-Brazilian, joins Juve after a successful spell at Bologna, where he secured a Champions League spot for the team by finishing fifth in Serie A last season. This comes after a coaching stint at Genoa that was less fruitful.
A decorated player himself, Motta boasts a Champions League title with both Barcelona and Inter Milan, along with five French league titles with PSG. He was also a runner-up with Italy at Euro 2012.
Juventus, despite winning the Coppa Italia, finished a disappointing third in Serie A, a significant 23 points behind champions Inter Milan. Their struggles were particularly evident towards the end of the season, with just three wins in their final 17 league matches.
Allegri’s dismissal stemmed from a series of outbursts deemed incompatible with the club’s values. These included an ejection during the Coppa Italia final win and an alleged altercation with a journalist. Although a successful manager for Juve in the past, winning 12 trophies including five Serie A titles, his behavior ultimately led to his departure.
