Kakamega Homeboyz picked up a vital 1-0 win over reigning Football Kenya Federation Premier League champions Tusker on Thursday at Bukhungu Stadium.
After ending Gor Mahia’s unbeaten run at the same venue in their last game, dominant Kakamega Homeboyz took the lead in the fourth minute when George Oduor found the back of the net when the Brewers had hardly settled.
The reigning champions almost equalised in the 19th minute, but Deogratius Ojok’s header flew slightly wide after he rose high to connect with a cross delivered by marauding fullback, Daniel Sakari.
The hosts kept asking serious questions of Tusker’s defence, and Charles Momanyi had to make a goalline clearance in the 42nd minute to ensure their rivals did not double their lead.
The win also saw the Kakamega-based side maintain their unbeaten start to the season. Homeboyz are not three points ahead of second-placed KCB, who have also played 10 matches.
