Kenya Police Bullets were forced to settle for a goalless draw against South Sudan’s Yei Joint Stars in their opening match of the CECAFA Zonal qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League. The match, played at the Abebe Bikila Stadium, saw both sides create numerous opportunities but ultimately fail to find the back of the net.

The result leaves the Kenyan champions in a precarious position in Group A, with their next match against hosts CBE, a crucial encounter.

East African Clubs Mixed Results

Elsewhere in the region, there was a mixed bag of results for East African clubs in continental competitions.

  • CAF Champions League:
    • Ethiopia’s Nigd Bank secured a crucial 2-1 win over Uganda’s SC Villa in the first leg of their first round tie.
    • Tanzania’s Yanga enjoyed a resounding 4-0 victory over Burundi’s Vital’O.

  • CAF Confederation Cup:
    • Tanzania’s Coastal Union faced a tough start, losing 3-0 to Angola’s Bravo do Maquis.
    • Rwanda’s Police were also defeated, going down 2-0 to Algeria’s Constantine.

Somali Clubs Show Promise

Somalia’s clubs have made positive strides in their continental campaigns. Dekedaha secured a 2-0 win over Djibouti’s Arta Solar in the CAF Champions League qualifiers, while Horseed played to a goalless draw with Burundi’s Rukinzo in the CAF Confederation Cup.
