Kenya Police stay in title race with win over Kakamega Homeboyz | FKF Premier League

In a crucial match held at Mumias Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon, Kenya Police asserted their presence in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) title race with a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Kakamega Homeboyz.

Despite trailing Gor Mahia by nine points, the Law Enforcers demonstrated their determination to stay in contention for the title. Meanwhile, Abana Abeingo maintained their sixth position on the league table with six matches remaining until the season’s conclusion.

The game started slowly, with Kakamega Homeboyz attempting to establish momentum through possession. However, it was Kenya Police who ignited the match’s intensity when Kevin Amwayi’s volley narrowly missed the target early on.

As the first half progressed, Kenya Police intensified their efforts, with Tito Okello missing a clear chance with a free header. The visitors adopted a defensive stance, frustrating Homeboyz’s attempts to break through, despite the latter’s lack of urgency in attack.

It was Kevin Amwayi who broke the deadlock for the hosts, capitalizing on an assist from Glen Otunga to give Kakamega Homeboyz the lead going into halftime.

After the break, both teams battled in midfield, with Salim Babu making tactical adjustments by introducing David Owino. The game opened up, with chances at both ends, including a close-range header from Tito Okello that leveled the score for Kenya Police.

As the match neared its conclusion, Abana Abeingo pressed for a winner, coming close with an indirect free-kick and a rebound header, both expertly saved by Kenya Police goalkeeper Patrick Matasi. However, it was Marvin Nambwire who sealed Kenya Police’s victory with a late goal in added time, securing three vital points in their pursuit of the league title.
