Brentford picked up another famous win at the Community Stadium, edging Liverpool 3–2 in a dramatic Premier League showdown.
The Bees flew out of the blocks, taking the lead just five minutes in when Dango Ouattara volleyed home after a clever flick-on from Nathan Collins. Liverpool responded with sustained possession and several close chances, including a near miss from Florian Wirtz.
Keith Andrews’ side continued to threaten on the counter and doubled their lead before the break. Mikkel Damsgaard’s brilliant through ball split the defence, allowing Kevin Schade to calmly slot past Mamardashvili for 2–0.
Just when it seemed Brentford would head into halftime cruising, Liverpool found a lifeline. Milos Kerkez ghosted in at the back post to finish off Conor Bradley’s cross, cutting the deficit to 2–1 in stoppage time.
The second half brought more drama. A VAR review overturned a free kick into a penalty after Van Dijk was judged to have fouled Ouattara on the line. Igor Thiago stepped up and made no mistake from the spot to restore Brentford’s two-goal cushion.
Liverpool struggled to find rhythm until the final minutes, when Dominik Szoboszlai picked out Mohamed Salah, who unleashed a stunning strike off the crossbar to make it 3–2. Despite late pressure, Brentford held firm for a memorable win.
Both teams produced an expected goals (xG) tally of 2.21, reflecting the end-to-end nature of the contest. Brentford will now turn their focus to the League Cup trip to Grimsby Town, while Liverpool host Crystal Palace.
