FKF Rules on Abandoned Matches as Murang’a SEAL Awarded Win, Nairobi United Hold Gor Mahia

The FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee has delivered rulings on two abandoned SportPesa Premier League matches, awarding Murang’a SEAL victory over Ulinzi Stars while confirming a 1–1 draw between Nairobi United and Gor Mahia under force majeure circumstances.

The Football Kenya Federation Leagues and Competitions Committee has issued its official decisions regarding two recently abandoned league fixtures, bringing clarity to contentious situations that had left clubs and fans in limbo.

In the case involving Ulinzi Stars and Murang’a SEAL, the committee confirmed that the match was abandoned after Ulinzi Stars declined to resume play. After reviewing the circumstances and applying FKF competition rules, the committee ruled in favour of Murang’a SEAL FC. As a result, the match has been awarded to Murang’a SEAL with a 2–0 scoreline registered against Ulinzi Stars.

The committee further noted that the matter has been escalated to both the FKF Disciplinary Committee and the Referees Committee for further examination, opening the door for possible sanctions depending on the outcome of those reviews.

Meanwhile, the high-profile fixture between Nairobi United and Gor Mahia was ruled abandoned due to force majeure, meaning unavoidable circumstances beyond the control of the participating teams. In line with FKF regulations, the score at the time of abandonment has been upheld, with the match officially recorded as a 1–1 draw.

However, the ruling has not been without controversy. Nairobi United were not invited to present their case before the Leagues and Competitions Committee reached its decision. The federation has acknowledged this, and the club now retains the right to challenge the outcome through the appropriate FKF channels.

The twin rulings are likely to have a direct impact on the league standings, while also reigniting debate around match management, procedural fairness, and the handling of abandoned fixtures in Kenyan football.
