Gor Mahia Reclaim Top Spot After Dominant Win Over Mara Sugar

Gor Mahia bounced back in style to return to the summit of the FKF Premier League after a commanding 3-0 victory over Mara Sugar, keeping pace with rivals AFC Leopards in an increasingly tight title race.

Gor Mahia responded emphatically to pressure at the top of the table after brushing aside Mara Sugar 3-0 to reclaim first place in the FKF Premier League on Sunday, edging above their rivals on goal difference.

With AFC Leopards having recorded a dramatic win a day earlier, K’Ogalo knew there was no room for error and they delivered a composed and professional performance to keep their title ambitions firmly on track.

The champions made a bright start and were rewarded in the 14th minute when Felix Oluoch broke the deadlock with a well-taken finish. Gor Mahia continued to press and doubled their advantage just 14 minutes later, Sharrif Musa finding the net to put Charles Akonnor’s side firmly in control.

Mara Sugar struggled to cope with Gor Mahia’s tempo and movement, although the hosts were guilty of some wastefulness in the second half as they failed to make their dominance count.

The third goal finally arrived four minutes from time, and it came through a well-worked move involving two substitutes. Ebenezer Asifuah provided the assist for Erick Kapen, who calmly tapped home to seal the result and put the icing on the cake.

The win marks back-to-back victories for Gor Mahia and extends their unbeaten run to five matches. K’Ogalo now sit on 33 points from 16 games, level with AFC Leopards but holding a game in hand, adding another layer of intrigue to the title race.

Akonnor’s side appear to have rediscovered their early-season rhythm and will be keen to reclaim the league crown they surrendered last season. However, with Leopards matching them stride for stride, the battle for supremacy promises to go down to the wire.
