Gor Mahia's pursuit of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) title gained momentum as they secured a crucial 1-0 win against Shabana FC at the Mamboleo Grounds Stadium in Kisumu.

The lone goal came in the 34th minute of the first half, courtesy of striker Benson Omalla, who continued his impressive form by finding the back of the net. Despite a spirited effort from Shabana in the second half, Gor Mahia's defense held firm, ensuring they maintained their slender lead until the final whistle.

The victory sees Gor Mahia extend their lead at the summit of the KPL table to 63 points, holding a commanding 12-point advantage over second-placed Police FC. On the flip side, the defeat plunges Shabana into a precarious position, tied with Sofapaka on 28 points and hovering just above the relegation zone.

Benson Omalla's goal also propels him further in the race for the golden boot, with his tally now standing at 15 goals for the season. He faces stiff competition from Police FC's Tito Okello, who trails closely with 13 goals, setting the stage for an intense battle for the coveted award with only five matches remaining.

Meanwhile, in other KPL fixtures, Kariobangi Sharks showcased their attacking prowess with a resounding 5-2 victory over Sofapaka, maintaining their 10th place position in the league standings. Ulinzi Stars had to settle for a draw against Muhoroni Youth in a goalless encounter, while KCB secured a point against Nzoia Sugar in a 1-1 stalemate, with both teams maintaining their respective positions in the league hierarchy.
