The fate of this Sunday’s Mashemeji Derby between long-time rivals Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards is hanging by a thread after CAF officially warned the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) against using the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, due to ongoing construction at the venue.
In what has thrown fans and organizers into uncertainty, Nyayo National Stadium—often the backup for such high-profile matches—is also unavailable as it undergoes renovations ahead of the Kip Keino Classic. This has left FKF scrambling to secure a suitable alternative, with the Ulinzi Sports Complex now emerging as the likely venue.
Safety remains a top concern. The federation has indicated that, should the game proceed at Ulinzi, attendance will be capped at 6,000 to avoid the risks associated with overcrowding.
Despite the cloud of uncertainty, Gor Mahia has urged fans to continue purchasing tickets online, assuring them that no official communication has been made regarding the postponement or cancellation of the match. "Your tickets will remain valid even if the match is rescheduled," the club noted via their official social media.
