Antonio Valencia is set to leave Manchester United after a decade at the club, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed.
The United boss revealed he will be looking for a new captain next season, paving the way for the departure of the Ecuadorian.
Valencia arrived from Wigan in the summer of 2009 and has amassed 338 appearances in 10 years at Old Trafford but has fallen out of favour this season.
The 33-year-old will head for pastures new this summer after winning six major titles at the club.
‘We’ll see who’s here for next season and I’ve got a couple of players in my head that could be captain,’ Solskjaer admitted on Friday.
‘We’ve had Antonio (Valencia), he’s going; we’ve had Ashley (Young); we’ve had Paul (Pogba), we’ve had David (de Gea); Chris (Smalling) has been captain, so there are players here who can be captain on the pitch.
‘We just need to decide who’s the club captain. Who’s going to be the voice in and around [the place].’
Valencia was initially signed as a winger but has found a regular place in the side in recent years at right back.
He has made only eight appearances for the club in 2018-19 and last played in the 2-0 win over Newcastle on January 2.
