Tottenham Hotspur are making a £30 million move to sign Everton’s on-loan midfielder Andre Gomes, a player ‘admired’ by Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, according to The Telegraph.

The Lilywhites have not signed any players in the last two transfer windows but are expected to bolster their squad this summer after moving into their new stadium.

The centre of midfield looks like an area that Tottenham need reinforcements, with Mousa Dembele leaving the club in January and injuries to Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama.

Spurs will have been impressed by Gomes’ showings in the Premier League for Everton this season, with the Barcelona loanee one of the Toffees’ best players in 2018-19.

The Portugal international has excellent technique and a solid work rate – qualities that Tottenham manager Pocehttino demands of his players.

With it seemingly unlikely that Gomes will be able to disrupt the current Barcelona midfield trident of Sergio Busquets, Arthur and Ivan Rakitic, a Premier League bidding war between Spurs and Everton could well be on the cards.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is well known for his reluctance to spend large sums of money, but the £30m fee touted for the Portuguese star seems like a fair amount for a player of his ability.
